The day started with the 40th Home Depot visit of the project. I had to get some more thin set and a few other things.
Most of the morning was finishing the shower curb and putting up the rest of the cement board.
The shower is ready for tile! Unfortunately the shower floor tile has not arrived. Now I cannot measure and order the glass for the shower enclosure. I'm guessing I will have the tile by this week. It would have been nice to order the glass tomorrow.
At around 1:30 we FINALLY got to start laying some tile. We spent about an hour dry laying tile to figure out where all the joints will fall. Lastly we set a few chalk lines down the length of the hallway to use as a guide and keep the tile straight. Jason got to put the first tile down.
It took a few hours to get here. My knees are pretty shot by then.
It was about 7:15pm at this point. It really does not go as fast as they show it on HGTV. It is much harder and much messier than I thought.
The bottom middle of the photo is the low point of the slab. What makes this so hard is the floor is so uneven. The last few tiles I had to build up the thinset almost 3/4" to stay close to level. We decided to put down a layer of thin set and let it dry overnight to build up rather than with each individual tile.
Jason started on the wall in the bathroom while I worked on the floor. He is pretty damn good. I am liking the tile choices even more now that I see them up.
Looking down from the top of the stairs at the tile.
My knees, legs and back are shot... I am going to try to tile a little one night this week and then next week will be a full weekend of tile again. Jason is away so hopefully I can find some help.
Short video of me laying a tile. Sorry its sideways.
